Ashanti Cult Sword, 19th/20th C
The Ashanti are in modern day Ghana, in Africa’s western equatorial region. Rich in natural resources like gold (which gave the region its name of "Gold Coast") and cocoa, they were masters in the art of forging. Broad curved 16" blade, swelling toward the point; pierced with geometric designs and stamped with crescent marks. Sharpened on the inside edge. Simple turned wood grip with small balls top and bottom and steel end cap. Overall length 21 ˝".
