Ashanti Cult Sword/Knife, Early 20th C
The Ashanti are in modern day Ghana, in Africa’s western equatorial region. Rich in natural resources like gold (which gave the region its name of "Gold Coast") and cocoa, they were masters in the art of forging. Curved 11 5/8" blade swelling toward the point; pierced with geometric shapes and chiseled dots and rows of diagonal lines. Uncleaned with corrosion and nicks and a small bend in the flat plane; never been sharpened. Wood grip with large balls on either end and an integral knob. Overall length 17 ˝".
