Australian Air Force Flying Helmet, WWII
Brown leather flying helmet with buckle chinstrap and small buckled loop on the rear to retain goggles. Inside the helmet are insulated circular leather earpads to reduce noise; the brow section has a section of sweat absorbing fabric let in. External circular earpieces, with openings at the bottom to allow the insertion of communication equipment. Each opening is secured by a pair of snap fasteners with brown plastic caps impressed "STAGG/MELB AUS". A cotton tag inside the helmet is embroidered with the words "Stagg Gloves". Chamois liner complete, showing stains and wear from use. Leather exterior very good condition, showing only minor wear and still remaining quite supple.
