Austrian-Hungarian Infantry Broadsword, ca. 1600
Iron hilt of Austrian-Hungarian style featuring straight guard with ring quillons in the horizontal plane; ovoid diagnoally fluted pommel with small button. Original wood grip with leather over cord wrap; the sword never having been apart. Double-edged 27 ½" blade of diamond-section with a partially obscured stamped eyelash mark. Metal parts heavily corroded, but 100% original and complete. Scarce style sword of a type found in the Landeszeughaus Graz, Austria and used in the wars with the Ottoman Empire. Overall length 34".
