British WWI era Leather Flying Helmet
Dark brown leather helmet with two-position snapped visor; two-position ear flaps for sound dampening. Black rabbit fur lining; the stitching loose in some areas and revealing sewn-in makerís label beneath reading "TAILORS OUTFITTERS/A.W. Gamage, Ltd/HOLBORN LONDON" in three lines. A.W. Gamage was a London department store that supplied high quality military clothing and equipment. They were in business between 1813 and 1942. Leather soft and supple with minor staining. Rabbit fur lining shows minor wear, but very good except for loose stitching. Lacking buckle.
