Coston Signal Company Line Throwing Cannon

The standard line-throwing cannon used on U.S. Naval capital ships from the late 1800s through the 1950s. This cannon utilizes a pre-measured black powder charge to launch rope lines in ship-to-ship transfers and life-saving duties. Mounted on original 7-position adjustable iron frame carriage. Barrel measures approximately 32 " to the end of the cascabel, 9" at the trunnion, and with a 2 " bore. The barrel and metal carriage measure 40" overall. The mount is marked "COSTON SIGNAL CO. / NEW YORK / USA". This example has been painted silver over the original finish. Raised serial number X 323-1(?) on both sides of carriage (hard to read due to multiple layers of paint). The surface exhibits modest surface rust and there is some encrustation in the bore, but it is generally in very good condition. From the Michael Yeck Collection. Price includes shipping in the Continental US.
