Excavated European Cabasset Helmet, Late 16th C
Of the style used by foot soldiers of most European countries during the 16th and 17th Centuries, this helmet features a one-piece bowl with medial ridge coming to an apex at the top, brim around the entire circumference at the base, and rivets which would have held the long-missing leather and linen liner. Pitted and rusted throughout. It shows battle damage and several cracks and rust holes at the top, with large sections at the bottom rusted away from long exposure to the elements. Illegible collection label on the inside. Recently acquired in Switzerland, it is an untouched relic of some unknown conflict of centuries past.
