French Smallsword, ca. 1810
Gilded brass hilt consisting of oval dish guard, reverse quillon with scroll finial, pas d’ane, and integral knuckle bow. Faceted grip and integral conical pommel. Triangular hollow-ground 30" blade with gold-filled engravings depicting a sun face, foliage, and stands of arms. Minor wear to gilding; areas of light pitting on the blade. Overall length 36 1/4". This exact sword from the Professor Petkovic Collection and published in his book, "Rapiers and Salon Swords", Zagreb, 2006, page 113.
