German Halberd, 2nd Half 17th C
Small crescent-shaped axe blade with pierced decorative shapes; up-turned spikes and small down-turned beak. Diamond-section8 1/4" thrusting blade with up-turned lugs at the base. Integral square-section ferrule, no side straps; mounted on later hardwood square-section shaft with beveled corners. Light pitting on metal. Length of metal 13 1/4"; overall 81 5/8". Former Michael Inchbald Collection. Very attractive and scarce style halberd.
