German Halberd, Late 16th C
Head with concave axe blade (upper point clipped) and long down-curved rear beak stamped on one side with a cross and orb mark, the head punched with 5 circular holes. 23" diamond-section spike; integral 15" side straps and a pair of separate front and rear straps secured with a square iron band (zwinge). Mounted on a 25" section of ancient hardwood shaft with beveled corners (worm eaten, but sound). Shows great age with lamination and an untouched dark brown rust patina. Length of metal 46 1/4", overall 53 1/4". Bargain priced for quick sale!
