German Halberd, Third Quarter 16th C
Steel head with integrally forged 22" diamond-section thrusting spike set slightly behind the centerline of the shaft. Concave axe blade with 5 holes punched in a rosette pattern. Thick down-curved rear spike with deeply stamped cog wheel makerís mark. Integrally forged 12" side straps mounted on later hardwood shaft with forged iron nails and brass rosettes. Length of metal 38", overall length 89 Ĺ". Steel parts showing lamination and light to moderate pitting.
