Italian Broadsword, 3rd Quarter 16th C

Forged iron hilt formed of round-section bars, featuring horizontally recurved quillons with ball finials, large pas d’ane connecting to the single obverse side ring, and knuckle bow with ball finial. Large ovoid pommel with button; grip wrapped with twisted brass and copper wire with small copper turks heads top and bottom (likely the original wrap). Hexagonal-section 41" blade with 8" central fuller bearing a copper inlaid running wolf mark on obverse side (some copper loss). Sword shows light pitting, lamination, a few edge nicks, and age patina commensurate with age and use. Overall length 46 3/4". Large sword made for battle.
