Italian Halberd, ca. 1600
Axe head with sloping concave blade, pierced with geometric shapes and a fleur de lis; angled beak with thickened point. Diamond-section 17" spike; integrally forged side straps with ferrule and separate front and rear reinforcing straps, mounted on later octagonal wood shaft with period brass dome-head nails. Includes a section of the original painted worm-eaten shaft (separate). Length of metal 34 3/8", overall 90".
