Italian Misericorde Dagger with Scabbard, 16th C

Steel hilt with faceted downward-angled quillions expanding toward the ends with small button finials. Original ribbed bone grip with base ferrule and pommel cap with small button finial and ribs matching the grip. Period leather scabbard with steel chape, likely original. Stiff 13 1/4" hollow ground triangular-section blade made just for thrusting. Such daggers were often carried by foot soldiers and used to pierce chainmail or gaps in armor plate. Steel parts showing age and pitting; bone grip with pleasing patina. Overall length 17 3/4", not including scabbard.
