Italian Model 55 Cavalry Officer’s Sabre, ca. 1850

Blackened steel stirrup hilt with long reverse quillon featuring slot for sword knot and scroll finial. Quillon block with rectangular double langets. Knuckle bow joins the capstan pommel with integral backstrap. Checkered and grooved ebony grip (chipped and split). Curved single-edge 31 3/4" German made blade with clipped point and broad single fuller; the lower third with narrow double fullers. Upper third of blade engraved on both sides with foliage, the crest of the Kingdom of Italy (Crowned cross in a shield), and "Solingen" in script. Pitting and dark age patina to metal parts. Overall length 37".
