Left Hand Sail Dagger, North Italian or Spanish, Mid-17th C
Triangular-section hollow-ground 18 3/4" blade with stamped makerís mark on the reverse, showing lamination and moderate pitting. Steel hilt with long straight quillons of square section transitioning to round spiral section with large button finials. Two-piece sail guard with triple ridges in the center and the edges rolled outward; the lower edge brazed with copper to the flat part of the quillons and the upper section fitting into a round hole on the pommel. Leather grip (worn, but complete and likely the original); ovoid pommel engraved with diamond design and fitted with a small button. Steel parts pitted and acid cleaned; some losses to the turned edges of the sail guard. Overall length 24 1/4".
