Onondaga Indian Scalping Knife
This Onondaga tacked knife features an early 5-pin wood slab handle decorated with square-shank brass tacks. Broad unmarked 8 ½" blade swelling toward the point. These knives were favored among the Iroquoian Great Lakes tribes for utility and warfare. This early knife has good weight and balance. Total length 13 3/4 inches. Many of these saw the grizzly practice of scalping during the Colonial period. Former Dr. Burke Collection.
