Pair of German Gauntlets, ca. 1580
Cuff with recessed border and rolled and roped edge tapering to a point. Five riveted lames covering the hand, the knuckle lame with a roped ridge (the right with small holes worn through). Thumb and fingers of multiple lames attached with leather and brass rivets, all replaced in Victorian times. Period parts smooth with some wear and pleasing patina, blackened on the inside surfaces. The later thumb and fingers showing some pitting and brown rust. Bargain priced!
