Sac-Fox Indian Ball-headed War Club, Late 19th C

Carved from a single piece of wood, 17 inches long; featuring ball with concentric rings and file marks. Top of handle with carved scalloped edge and lunettes painted red and black. Handle carved with owner’s name "me ga me gi sln’g" in black and three rings painted red and black; featuring hole with leather thong. A functional weapon used for both war and ceremony.
