Saxon Minerís Axe, 17th C
Forged iron axe blade of typical form, but a bit cruder than typically found; showing lamination and forging flaws and featuring punched holes and a tear-drop, with integral acorn finial. Offset ferrule. Fruitwood handle inlaid with bone dots and panels depicting flowers; crucified Christ on the spine, as generally found. Bone butt panel depicting crossed minerís tools with a hatched border. A single bone dot missing from the base of the shaft. Overall length 35".
