Scarce Venetian Bat Wing Corseca, ca. 1530

Uniquely Italian polearm with tapered 14" long central blade with strong medial ridge. Two "bat wing" angled side blades, each pierced with three holes and stamped with a makerís mark "R". Integral octagonal socket with a pair of unusual brass balusters; mounted with a pair of long side straps to a later octagonal oak haft. The head shows much lamination and forging flaws, with light pitting and age staining. Length of metal 43"; length from tip to base of socket 21 5/8". Overall length 96 3/4".
