South German or Austrian Halberd, 3rd Quarter 16th C
Concave axe blade pierced with three clovers; downward angled rear beak with upturned point and hook on the upper side, stamped with an "HW" makerís mark and a clover shaped piercing. Diamond-section 23" thrusting spike; integrally forged side straps attached to a later hardwood shaft with molded edges. Length of metal 44"; overall 95". Metal parts with scattered pitting and age staining; the spike with two areas of heavier pitting.
