Spanish Cuphilt Rapier, ca. 1700-1750
Guard with long straight quillons with turned finials and integral knucklebow; large pas d’ane screwed to the plain hemispherical cup with rolled edge. Bun-shaped pommel with turned baluster base and button on top. Grip with twisted iron wire wrap and 4 longitudinal bars. Slender 34 ½" diamond-section blade with short central fuller, bearing an indistinct mark on each side. Overall length 41 ½". Looks like a sword straight out of an Errol Flynn swashbuckler.
