Swept Hilt Rapier, Probably Italian, Early 17th C
Iron hilt formed of round-section bars and featuring large side ring with central knob and down-curved quillons; the quillon block with diagonal cross-hatching. Knuckle bow joined by a diagonal bar attached to the side ring. Reverse with diagonal side ring and integral thumb ring. Faceted ovoid pommel with button and grip with fine twisted brass wire wrap and braided turks heads top, bottom, and middle. Double-edged 34 ½" blade of lens-section with a central pair of 8 ½" double-incised lines joining a punched cross; long flat ricasso with line borders and three stamped marks on each side. Metal parts cleaned with light pitting; several braised repairs to guard. Overall length 40 ½".
