US M1860 Cavalry Sabre
Clear maker marking "MANSFIELD & LAMB FORESTDALE, R.I." in oval cartouche. Obverse with "U.S./G.W.C./1865", the inspector stamp having been applied 3 times, with only the center stamp complete. The 35" blade has been sharpened and has several very shallow edge nicks. Original leather blade washer. Blade has been cleaned. Brass two-branch guard, part bright and part dark brown patina. Original leather complete with minor wear and flaking, retaining all its original twisted brass wire. Two-ring scabbard with drag stamped "23", painted black and showing typical wear and one shallow dent on reverse between the rings. Mansfield & Lamb received a contract for 10,000 cavalry sabres in 1861 and delivered them throughout the war.
