WWI Era Trench Art Lamp, BPOE
Made from a WWI US 6-pdr brass-cased Hotchkiss shell, the base signed by the maker "C.W. MYERS/1-20-1922" and made as a WWI memorial for the Elks Lodge. Embossed design of an elk with stippled background, surmounted by "B.P.O.E." (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks), with a clock showing the time of 11:00, the time at which hostilities during the First World War officially ended. Inert steel projectile with three arched brass arms, each holding a chain-switched light socket and antique glass shade. The lamp is mounted on an 8 ˝" diameter round hardwood base and features an 8' twisted cloth-covered cord. Minimal restoration and all sockets and switches operate normally. The Elks’ current headquarters is the Elks National Veterans Memorial and Headquarters in Chicago, built as a memorial to their First World War dead in 1926. They lost nearly 1,000 brothers during the war. Overall height 23", weight nearly 13 pounds. Price includes US domestic shipping (around $50 for this large and heavy piece).
