Description

Blued flat lockplate with engraved line border, marked AKETLAND@; featuring swan neck cock with engraved line border. Tapering round brass 8″ barrel of approximately .58 cal., stamped ALONDON@ and bearing a border of stars around the breech; blued steel barrel tang with engraved border and triple feather mark. Brass mounts, including trigger guard with flower blossom, butt cap stamped A955″, serpentine side plate, and two ramrod thimbles. Walnut full stock; wood ramrod with brass tip. Thomas Ketland, 1737-1816, son of William, worked in Birmingham from the 1760’s. Ketland & Co. maintained offices in Philadelphia, their guns being popular as trade pieces for the Indians . Overall length 14″. Very good plus condition, the metal bright, wood with minor handling marks. While this is virtually an exact copy of a Ketland trade pistol, it is a copy made much later.
