Description
Hilt of traditional “Glasgow” style made with longitudinally fluted flat bars and flat plates pierced with hearts and circles, the edges scalloped. Side guards with fleur de lis terminal; forward guard of traditional double loops; rear quillon with flat scrolled wrist guard. Fluted domed pommel without button; later wood grip made without grip wrap. Straight unmarked single-edged 35” (89 cm) blade with three narrow fullers toward the back edge, the last 9” double-edged; point rounded, as typically found. Metal with even dark patina; the blade with light pitting; guard slightly loose. Overall length 40 1/2” (103 cm). Iconic style basket hilt of the Culloden era.
