Description

Featuring 38” octagonal to round barrel of approximately .78 caliber; the breech stamped with two proof marks. Rectangular front sight and grooved rear sight; the barrel tang with decorative etching. Flat lock plate with line border and gilt highlights, stamped “DUNDERDALE/& MABSON” (Birmingham, ca. 1780-1813); flat swan-neck cock. Walnut full stock with checkered wrist. Brass mounts, including trigger guard with acorn finial, side plate, butt plate, fore end cap, three decorative ramrod thimbles, and oval escutcheon engraved with the number “23”; trigger guard, butt plate tang, and side plate engraved with stands of arms. Associated iron ramrod. Metal pitted with gunmetal gray patina; stock with 6” sliver replaced on right side near muzzle, 1/2” crack from breech to side plate, and lacking one barrel pin; trigger guard lacking sling swivel; brass with pleasing light patina. Otherwise very good; action strong and functions properly Overall length 53 1/2”. Possibly made for militia use.
