Description

Generally following the pattern of the Model AN IX and XI light cavalry sabers, this sword features a cast brass hilt with knuckle bow and two branches, reverse scroll quillon, double elliptical langets, and capstan pommel with integral backstrap. Quillon stamped on top with “DUC”, a stamp of the Imperial Guard. The grip is covered with its original leather and brass wire wrap. Single-edged 33” (84 cm) curved blade with broad single fuller, the last ten inches double-edged. The upper third is decorated with gold-filled engravings of foliage and stands of arms on a blued background. Original iron scabbard with brass throat and twin carry bands and rings. Cleaned in the European fashion and in very good condition. The bluing on the blade worn on the upper portion. From a large European collection of French Napoleonic weaponry. Overall length 38” (96.5 cm), not including scabbard.
