Description
Made from an empty German brass 7.7 cm artillery shell casing, this piece is artfully
decorated with flowers and the battle names “DISCMUIDE” (Dixmuide), “NIEUPOORT”,
and “YSER” with cross-hatched background and geometric border beneath the scalloped
top rim. These were all early battles of the German “Run to the Sea” through
northwestern Belgium in October, 1914, collectively known as the Yser Campaign. The
base of the shell is stamped “st/56/APRL 1917/ANDT/6C/ANDT”. Intact fired primer.
