Description

Unique style sword, similar to the Sudanese kaskara, but specific to the nomadic Berbers
of the Sahara. Wide straight flat wood guard covered with leather and sheet brass and
decorated with a simple incised geometric pattern. Grip covered in sheet brass; hollow
brazil-nut shaped brass pommel with applied copper band with incised decoration. The peen to
the pommel has been broken and reattached with solder and epoxy. Broad tapering
straight 32″ double-edged blade with triple fullers, stamped on both sides with double
man-in-the moon marks. Dark patina and scattered pitting to the blade; the tip blunted as
typically found. Overall length 37 1/4″.
