Description

Featuring unmarked 54 1/4” (138 cm) octagonal smoothbore barrel of .56 caliber tapering to a round muzzle; front silver blade sight and rear notch sight; the tang with engraved acanthus decoration. Flat lock plate with line border and simple foliate decoration at the rear; stamped “WARRANTED”; flat swan-neck cock. Cherry wood full stock with bone fore end cap and brass mounts; including trigger guard with acorn finials, butt plate with long decorated tang, two small inlaid plates opposite lock, and four ramrod thimbles. Wood ramrod with bone tip. Oval silver wrist escutcheon, later engraved with eagle over “EB” in block letters over the date “1775”, and indecipherable text in script. Trigger guard with attached brass collection tag. Barrel with mottled brown finish and pitting at the breech; lock plate smooth with dark gray patina. Wood with beautiful rich patina and several tight cracks and minor repairs, Brass with pleasing mellow patina. Overall length 70”.
